Background
The Dixon’s Sports Ground Pavilion in Sheffield is used by an adult’s football team, two junior football teams and a canoe club. The facility, adjacent to the River Don, is run by a group of local volunteers on a not-for-profit basis.
The old pavilion felt roof was in dire need of refurbishment. There were major water ingress problems arising from the failing existing old built up mineral felt waterproofing.
In order to fund the roof works, the group of local volunteers relied on sponsorship and donations. Therefore, a cost-effective value engineered solution had to be found.
The roofing project consisted of a simple rectangular roof area, totalling 230m2. Local Fatra approved installer Proclad was employed to carry out the waterproofing works for this urgent refurbishment project.
Notable benefits
For the roof refurbishment, in order to keep costs to a minimum, it was proposed to overlay the existing felt roof with the Fatra FF801 polyester fleece and the lap-fixed Fatra FF810 single ply membrane system.
The fleece was introduced in order to prevent plasticiser migration between the old bituminous felt and the new PVC Fatra membrane; ensuring the longevity of the new Fatra waterproofing solution.
The lap-fixed FF810 membrane was quick to install with fixing centres of 150mm along the laps.
Proclad completed the project in October 2020 and it was delivered with the benefit of a 20 year product guarantee.
Fatra FF810 is available from Fatra UK Ltd and can only be installed by Fatra trained and licensed contractors.
