Background
The Cedars Academy in Leicester had an existing barrel-vaulted roof to their large sports hall. This facility services several of the academy’s sports teams; including volleyball, netball, basketball and badminton.
With a limited budget to work with, cost effectiveness was a top priority for the academy. It was essential that the refurbishment works were carried out in a way that allowed the facility to remain open. Accordingly, the assistance and expertise of Fatra was sought to supply a suitable waterproofing system. This undulating and complex roof structure required the robustness of Fatra’s roofing solutions and products.
Notable benefits
The existing structure consisted of an undulating concrete deck with a felt warm roof build up. The refurbishment works consisted of upgrading the existing build up by overlaying new insulation and applying a new waterproofing layer on top.
The new insulation boards were cut in a bespoke way to suit the barrel-vaulted structure. These mechanically fixed insulation boards then received the adhered Fatra FF807V fleece backed single ply membrane. The outcome is an aesthetically pleasing and resilient waterproofing upgrade to the academy’s large sports hall.
The project was completed in January 2020 and was delivered with the benefit of a 20 year product guarantee.
