Background
Abbeyfield Winnersh is a specialist dementia care home. The 60-bed home boasts an abundance of unique interior and exterior features created to enhance the quality of life for those living with dementia.
It is the first circular care home in the UK. A very common symptom of dementia is the urge to wander, and the cyclical corridors allow for this without residents ever coming to a definite end point.
The roofing project consisted of four large linked circular roof areas, totalling 2800m2. Local Fatra approved installer Roofbond was employed to carry out the waterproofing works for this new pioneering care home.
Notable benefits
The newly constructed roof was waterproofed using the Fatra FF810V mechanically pad-fixed single ply membrane system. The Fatra FF810V is a 2.05 metre wide pad-fixed membrane which greatly improves installation efficiencies when compared to traditional 1.0 metre wide lap-fixed products.
The efficient installation process of pad-fixing benefits the construction programme tremendously, ensuring water tightness is provided at an early stage of the build.
Roofbond completed the project in March 2016 and it was delivered with the benefit of a 20 year product guarantee.
